'NDC will use oil money for 2012 campaign'
An aspiring candidate for the Central Regional NPP Youth Organizer position, Mr Francis Ejaku Donkoh, has hinted that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) will use revenue that will be generated from the country's oil to fuel their campaign in the 2012 presidential and parliamentary elections to enable them retain power.
According to Ejaku, from all indications, the NDC will mismanage the revenue that would be accrued from the oil exploration, adding that the sole intention of the NDC is to lavish the oil proceeds on it campaign.
Ejaku, who is also the Assembly member for Nkubeim electoral area, near Saltpond in the Mfantseman West Municipality, said this in an exclusive interview with TODAY at his base in Saltpond over the weekend.
He warned that if stringent measures were not put in place as soon as possible to protect the proceeds from the oil when drilling starts in 2011, Ghanaians will laugh at the wrong side of their mouths as they will neither see nor feel the benefits of the oil drill.
Mr. Ejaku therefore called on NPP stalwarts and supporters in the area to be vigilant and play active role in the party's activities to ensure that the country's oil revenue does not go waste, stressing that that would be the only way to ensure proper accountability of the oil proceeds.
He made a passionate appeal to NPP members to avoid factionalism in order to enable the party achieve its objective of winning the 2012 general elections.
He said the party should be the only faction for NPP supporters and not any individual in the party, adding that the party's interest should surpass every other interest and not the other way round.
The aspiring candidate urged supporters of the NPP to see the impending regional elections as a litmus test for the party to elect competent candidates who can stand up to the challenges that are likely to confront the NPP in 2012.
Mr. Ejaku advised delegates not to vote for people who will pay for their votes but be mindful of the campaign messages of contestants and vote for those whose campaigns would be issues driven.
“I will take this opportunity to urge my fellow members to vote for competent candidates or individuals and not people who choose to influence them with money. At this point, the party needs the services of competent people who have the wherewithal to man the affairs of the party,” he stressed.
