Welder Gets 40 Years For Robbery

Nasiru Mohammed alias 'Baba Amu', a 19-year-old welder, has been sentenced to 40 years imprisonment with hard labour by a Kumasi Circuit Court for robbery.

He was part of a seven-member gang, who during a robbery operation, attacked and inflicted deep machete wounds on the face of a taxi cab driver that has now left him blind.

Mohammed pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Baba Sulemana, alias 'Baba Alhaji', Awal Mohammed, alias 'Parman', Osmanu Adams (alias Ogyam) and Mustapha Issah (alias Sumaila) are already serving 40 years each in jail for their involvement in the robbery.

Two others known only by their first names as Iddi and Yasir are, however, on the run.

Police Chief Inspector Isaac Mensah Apenteng told the court presided by Mr Adjei Frimpong that the incident took place around 1 AM on January 23.

Mr Abdul Aminu Yusif, a taxi cab driver, was on his usual rounds and had parked the car at the Amakom Roundabout to pick up some passengers.

Police Chief Inspector Apenteng said all of a sudden, Amu and the six others, armed with pistols and machetes attacked and robbed Yusif of his cell phone and GHҐ100.

They left him with deep multiple cuts and he was thus rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), where he underwent surgery but eventually lost his sight.

Fortunately, Yusif knew his attackers and gave their names to the police. Share Your Thoughts on this article Name Email Location Comments Graphic Ghana may edit your comments and not all comments will be published
