MP dents Speaker`s car

The MP for New Edubiase, Hon. Ernest Kofi Ackah, yesterday hit his car against that of the Speaker of Parliament, Justice (Mrs) Joyce Bamford Addo, who was on her way to parliament. The incident occurred at the Ako Adjei interchange, near the Royal Netherlands Embassy.

The MP, in a bid to give way to the Speaker's convoy, rather ran his car into the side of the Speaker's vehicle. It was when the security detail of the Speaker approached the offending car that they realised that the occupant was an MP.

Information available to The Chronicle indicates that Justice Joyce Bamford Addo was immediately conveyed into another car and rushed to the hospital, where she was treated and discharged.

The Director of Public Affairs of parliament, Mr. Jones Kugblenu, who confirmed the incident, noted that the case has been handed over to the Marshal of parliament, to examine and report later to the Speaker.

The accident led to the delay of the proceedings of the house, which should have started at 10:00am in the forenoon. All efforts by this reporter to reach the offending MP for his comments proved futile.
