Ave Maria School pursues excellence

Authorities at the Ave Maria School at Dansoman in the Ablekuma South Constituency of Accra say they are committed to the holistic training of students that builds confidence and an enquiring mind of the individual.

“A holistic education must take into account the environment, physical, mental and social development of the individual who must exude confidence and desire to get to the bottom of issues by banishing all doubts through questioning,” explained Mr. Michael Safo Antwi, the proprietor.

Mr Antwi stated the objectives in an interview with Myjoyonline.com after the commissioning of a boarding facility for the school located on the school premises. The co-educational boarding facility has capacity to house 250 and is opened to pupils seven years or older.

Ave Maria School, with a student population of 1,600 from the Crèche to Junior High School level and a total of 104 staff (73 teaching), will provide feeding and laundry services for boarders.

The school also has an arrangement with the Dansoman Polyclinic as well as the Opoku Ware Clinic to take care of the medical needs of the students.

A giant assembly hall complex and a new dining hall, currently under construction, are slated for completion by the close of the new academic year.

Mr. Antwi urged parents to complement the role of teachers and other school authorities in the upbringing of students, describing the transition into adolescence as a very complex development stage. “Adolescence is an important time of personality development, a period of integration as well as separation. Today's youth face a number of pressing health problems including sexually transmitted diseases and substance abuse. We need parents and guardians to partner the school in training the youth on the right path and guide them to make right choices,” he said.

Founded in 1982 as a private Catholic school, the Ave Maria School has persisted in posting excellent results at the Basic Education Certificate. See school's 2007 and 2008 BECE results.
