Clottey Close To Fighting Mosley

Miguel Cotto and Joshua Clottey

Joshua Clottey, former International Federation Boxing (IBF) Welterweight champion is close to fighting 'Sugar' Shane Mosley for the World Boxing Association (WBA) title in November this year.

Currently, talks have advanced between Top Rank's Bob Arum and Golden Boy Promotions in order to arrange a bout for the two crack boxers.

Though Clottey, 32, lost to Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto, 37 in June for the World Boxing Organization Welterweight crown, the Ghanaian boxer is confident an agreement would be reached to enable him challenge for Mosley's belt.

Shane Mosley (46-5,39KOs) knock-down Mexican Antonio Magarito in round nine to win the WBA title, whiles Clottey (30-2, 20KOs) lost in a split decision to Cotto.

The hard-hitting Clottey, who vacated his IBF title to face Cotto for the WBO title earlier, told the Ghanaian press that he had no regrets over that decision.

“I don't regret the decision to relinquish the IBF title; a champion must always fight the best. It was the best decision I took and I have no regrets, sometimes it is not just being a champion but a worthy champion.”

“About 23,000 fans watched my fight against Cotto and it really exposed me to the boxing world. No Ghanaian boxer has attracted such crowd; it was only the Ike Quartey-Dela Hoya contest in 1999 that came closest to my record fight.”
