SCB supports Princess Marie Louise Children`s Hospital
The Standard Chartered has presented a cheque of GH¢10,000 to the Princess Marie Louise Hospital at a short ceremony on the Hospital premises.
The donation was in response to an earlier appeal by Father Campbell, on behalf of the Board of Governors of the Hospital to fund the construction of an operating theatre and other support services.
Making the presentation, Mr. John Paynter, Group Non-Executive Director of the Bank, who was on a three-day duty tour of the franchise, said “Standard Chartered has a strong history of supporting the communities in which it operates, especially here in the developing world, where many of its employees live and work and remain focused on providing benefit to these communities in line with its sustainable business agenda.
As the premier bank and one of the oldest businesses in Ghana, Standard Chartered recognizes the immense contribution of the Princess Marie Louise Children's Hospital which spans about 8 decades and is, therefore, committed to support efforts aimed at improving its paediatric intensive care services.
By partnering this great Hospital to fund the construction of the operating theatre and other support services, we are confident that our joint efforts across the developing world will contribute significantly to the overall improvement to the quality of healthcare in the space we occupy.”
Receiving the items on behalf of the community, Father Campbell, the Chairman of the Board of Governors at the Princess Marie Louise Children's Hospital, said “We are grateful to Standard Chartered Bank for demonstrating good Corporate Social values in responding to our humble appeal. We hope other businesses will follow in their example to bring benefit to some of the most neglected sectors of our economy. Standard Chartered has indeed proved to be Ghana's most Socially Responsible Bank.”
The Princess Marie Louise Children's Hospital is the only hospital in Ghana that caters exclusively for children. The hospital enjoys a high profile within the local community, as well as having a reputation for clinical excellence in both preventive and curative medical services.
Standard Chartered has been involved with the Princess Marie Louise Hospital over the years.
In 2007, over 50 staff of the Bank (predominantly HIV champions) donated items worth about GH¢4,875 including Oxygen Cylinders, Medical Supplies, Fruits, Sanitary Items and Paint Products (made available in partnership with Azar Paints) to the patients of the Hospital.
The highly energized staff went on to paint sections of the premises ably led by CEO and his top management team, as part of their employee volunteering efforts. This was in commemoration of World Aids Day.
Staff of the Bank have on separate occasions donated several food items and provisions to the Hospital.
The Bank has continued to support other not-for-profit organisations over the years including the Ghana Association of the Blind, Sisters of Missionaries Charity, Princess Marie Louise Hospital and Brothers And Sisters In Christ Serving (BASICS). Commenting, Nii Okai Nunoo, Area Head of Corporate Affairs, West Africa, at Standard Chartered said “Here in Ghana, we will continue to invest in our communities.
We will continue to invest in our long term partnerships in the country. It's a vital part of what we do, in Ghana, in Africa, and globally. Whether it's a local project involving our staff here in Ghana or a pan-African initiative, mobilising technical and financial support and assistance from across our international network, our commitment remains the same.”
