Labourer Remanded For Computer Theft
A 41 year old labourer has appeared before the Ashaiman Circuit Court for stealing a computer Central Processing Unit (CPU) valued at GH¢300 belonging to his employer. Mohammed Abass pleaded not guilty to the offence and was remanded in custody to appear again on May 8.
Prosecuting, Inspector Jacob Asomani, said the complainant in the case is the Managing Director of Setmat Computer Company Limited and the accused, his employee.
He said the complainant had for sometime detected the theft of some items in the warehouse and had therefore, been on a high alert.
On April 17, he asked some of his workers to clean the warehouse located at the Mankoadze Roundabout area which also served as a showroom and left the office to attend to some other business elsewhere.
The prosecutor said, Abass took advantage of the absence of the complainant and stole the CPU and handed it over to a 15 year-old-boy for keeps.
On his way back to the warehouse the complainant met the boy carrying the CPU away and when he confronted him he revealed that it was given to him by Abass, Inspector Asomani added.
The complainant, therefore, arrested the boy and brought him back to the warehouse for verification but Abass who had apparently got wind of the arrest escaped but was later arrested by the police, he stated.
