The Acting Chief of the Defence Staff, Rear Admiral Attah Sampa Nunoo has officially handed over the mantle as the head of the Ghana Armed Forces to Major General Peter Blay.

Speaking at the ceremony at Burma Camp in Accra, the new Chief of the Defence staff (CDS) Major General Peter Blay expressed the hope that he will work collectively with the military high command to ensure that professionalism remains a key pillar in the armed forces.

He thanked Rear Admiral Nunoo for his immense contribution to the Ghana Army over the years.

At a separate ceremony for the Army, the out-going Chief of the Army Staff, Major General Odotei appealed to the media to stop playing politics with the Ghana Armed Forces but rather help to maintain its reputation which it has enjoyed internationally, adding that the continued falsehood by the media will not help strengthen the country's young democracy.

In a related development, Rear Admiral Sampa Nunoo appealed to Government to adequately resource the Ghana Navy to help safeguard the country's natural resources and combat criminal activities.

He said this when he handed over as the Chief of the Naval staff to Rear Admiral Matthew Quarshie.

Also at the Burma camp was the handing over ceremony of the Chief of the Air Staff Vice Marshal Julius Boateng to the in-coming Chief of Air Staff Air Vice Marshall Michael Samson Oje. The colourful ceremony was witnessed by both Senior and Junior Army officers and some civilian employees.
