16 PEOPLES AND 12 ORGANIZATIONS TO RECEIVE NATIONAL PEACE HONOURS AWARDS
His Excellency, His Awardship Alhaji Aliu Mahama, (Patron of CACG and Vice President of the Republic of Ghana) and His Awardship Major Courage E. K. Quashigah, (Rtd.) (Vice Patron, Board of Patrons and Chairman of the Board of Governors) and the entire council are pleased and grateful to extend the council's heartfelt felicitations to the good people of Ghana particularly those who worked towards promoting and maintaining peace before, during and after the December 7th elections.
“Peace is an attitude that deals with differences of interest in ways that ensure violently antagonistic positions do not arise in the first place said His Awardship Major Courage E. K. Quashigah, (Rtd.)”.
Major Courage E. K. Quashigah has also noted, that before, during and after the 1st round of the December 7th Polls, several personalities and organizations worked for peace in a bottom-up fashion by using their sense of justice, humanity and willingness to help, even in the face of resistance, following the tenets of non-violence, civic duty and courage, reasoning and kind- heartedness towards ensuring free, fair and transparent elections.
Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama has underscored that today, this record has become a benchmark that Africa is proud of and other African countries look forward to. “Nevertheless, a nation that does not honour her heroes is not worth dying for Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama said.”
In addition, he has further reiterated that in order to maintain this record for accelerated and sustained national development in Ghana, the men and women of our grateful nation who contributed to this success must be honoured with the 2008 National Peace Honours Awards citing that this year's edition is dedicated solely to our national elections.
The awards ceremony will be held at the International Press Centre on the 30th December 2008 at 18:00 Hrs. Below are names of personalities and organizations that will be honoured.
They are Cardinal Peter Appiah Turkson, Amen Mawlvi Wahab Adam, President Obuo, Grace Ashy and Kojo Oppong Nkrumah. Others include Mr. Roland Walker, Nana Abba Anamoah, DCP Appiah Ofori, Alfred Akrofi Ocansey. The rest are Nana Ato Kondua, Mrs. Evon Ndum, John Larvie, Ben Ephson and Deladem Kisseih. Lastly, Lamptey Mills, and Kweku Sintim Missah
Organizations that will also be honoured are IEA, CDD Ghana, Choice Fm, Joy FM, YES FM, TV 3, TV Africa and GTV. The rest are Metro TV, AITV, Daily Dispatch and Public Agenda.
The Council is therefore is calling on award winners not to rest on their oars but continue to strive had to ensure that the 28th December Polls is successful. The CACG High Command therefore congratulates all winners of this year's edition of the 2008 National Peace Honours Awards and wishes them well.
