Give my subjects protection to vote - Chief

Nii Kofi Akrashie, Chief of Oshiyie, a fishing town off the Winneba Road in the Ga District, on Wednesday appealed to the Greater Accra Regional Police Command to arrange for protection for over 400 of his subjects, currently seeking refuge in neighbouring communities, to enable them to return home to exercise their franchise on Sunday.

In a petition to the Regional Police Commander dated December 2, a copy of which has been made available to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, Nii Akrashie recalled that in June this year, a chieftaincy dispute in the town led to the loss of lives and property, forcing over 400 people into exile.

He said for fear of further attacks these displaced persons, who are registered voters and are anxious to cast their votes, cannot return home. Nii Akrashie therefore urged the Regional Police Command to arrange for the necessary protection for these displaced citizens of the town, who are refugees in neighbouring towns, to enable them to cast their votes.
