Krobo Blasts MP
The Manya Krobo Traditional Council has acted swiftly to the vituperations from the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Hon. Michael Teye Nyaunu, against members of the Council, saying he had failed woefully to account for his stewardship as MP for three terms and rather resorted to 'dirty political game'.
It stressed that just as the MP smears other people as not being Krobos, he too has an explanation to make about the true origin of his surname, Nyaunu, which is alien in Krobo diction.
According to the Council, the MP had the penchant of stigmatizing his political opponents by not only describing them as non-indigenes, but also alleging that they have not performed the needed rites to qualify them as such.
It therefore cautioned those who had allowed themselves to be used as instruments for political gains to be wary of the mischief of the MP, as he is only seen once every four years.
These were contained in a strongly-worded rejoinder signed by Nene Sasraku IV, Acting President of the Manya Krobo Traditional Council (MKTC), on behalf of chiefs in the area, and suggested that Hon. Nyaunu himself could have some skeletons in his cupboard, when it comes to who qualifies as a true son of the soil.
“The desperate man is as it again this year. Every contestant is not a Krobo, even if the person hails from Odumasi Krobo. The only thing Krobo about the honorable MP is the name TEYE. I am yet to be told where the surname Nyaunu belongs. I don't know if it is a Krobo name,” the reaction stated.
On how he had managed to 'sneak' into Parliament for three consecutive times, the chiefs revealed that Nyaunu distributed slices of tuna fish (Kpokploku), a margarine tin of rice and some salt to buy the votes of the largely uneducated constituents in sections of the constituency, after which he would not be seen again.
“The Lower Manya MP would return after four years with the same campaign strategy, and also instigating the general populace against their chiefs and in particular against the paramountcy at Odumase-Krobo”.
It would be recalled that the MP viciously attacked the traditional leadership of his district on a political platform recently, calling them self-seeking elements who see nothing good in people from other parts of the district.
The embattled MP, who was addressing party faithful at Nuaso-Krobo, virtually incited the youth of the area to rise up against what he called 'the divisive rule' of chiefs from the Odumase-Krobo sector of the district if they wanted to secure their future.
“The Odumase elders think they are the wisest people in the constituency. They have fooled us all this while, and it amazes me that every year we all dress up and join them to celebrate the Ngmayem festival. There is no point in buying new clothes, shoes and other apparel to join them in celebrating the festival,” he told the gathering.
According to him, the Konor of Manya Krobo, Nene Sakitey II; District Chief Executive (DCE), David Sakitey Asare; and Presiding Member, Emmanuel Agyarko, all hail from Odumase; saying he did not understand why the position of MP should also go there.
But in a swift reaction, following an emergency traditional council meeting on 20th November, the chiefs said the MP was being economical with the truth.
According to them, Nyaunu saw nothing wrong when for several years the DCE of the area, Presiding Member, Member of Parliament, and party chairmen for the NDC and NPP all hailed from Nuaso, and is now playing politics with it when the tide changed.
