Performance review of auditors IAA calls on CEOs to establish internal audit units
The Internal Audit Agency (IAA) has called on Chief Executive Officers in the public sector to ensure the establishment of functional internal audit units in their jurisdiction.
This call was to help facilitate the work of the IAA to evaluate the performance of public officials on timely basis. The call was made at a three day programme held by the IAA in Dodowa, to review the performance of auditors in the public sector- made up of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs).
With its core functions established by an Act of Parliament to co-ordinate, facilitate and provide quality assurance for internal audit activities in the public sector, the IAA called for fast track operations in the afformentioned sectors to stem corporate fraud, abuse, waste and corruption.
The key output of the review for the year 2008 was placed on the report of the IAA and also finalised on the Agency's work plan and budget for the year 2009.
Meanwhile, auditors also anticipated their support by removing bottlenecks in the performance of management system in the public sector.
This, to them would ensure that Chief Directors and Chief Executives were held accountable for agreed targets in performance, signed at the beginning of each year.
The Director-General of the IAA, Patrick Nomo advised participants to make prevention of fraud their number one priority.
