Kakum River claims three lives in Cape Coast

Two people are reported drowned in the Kakum River in Cape Coast. The first incident happened on June 4 and the second on June 5. Investigations by Radio Ghana indicate that on the 4th of this month, one Kwame Adams also known as Tooba who is a mason with two children went to the Kakum River to wash his floor carpet. After several hours of not returning, his friends and wife became suspicious and went to the river side to look for him.

When they got there they saw his belongings and quickly informed the Assembly member for the area, Kwesi Nunoo who mobilized swimmers to search for Tooba but to no avail. The search team went the following day and found him dead with blood clot around his nostrils and ears. Shortly after the police had taken the body of the 25 year old Mason away, his bosom friend, Awul, who resides at Abura also in Cape Coast jumped into the river and got drowned. Awul 's body has still not been found.

When Radio Ghana contacted the priestess of the river, she claimed the river god is annoyed with the inhabitants. She noted that pollution and other acts like defecating and smoking marijuana at the banks of the river have infuriated the river god. The priestess noted that if those activities are not stopped, more of such calamities will happen. Radio Ghana learnt that three people have drowned in the river in less than two weeks.
