100 unemployed undergo training in herbal medicine

About one hundred participants, made up of
40 males and 60 females, are to undergo six months intensive training, in various aspects of herbal medication, as part of efforts to equip them with the requisite skills of employment.

The course, which is being organized by Dr. Samuel Kwame Ampomah, Proprietor of the Dr. Ampoma Medical Centre, is aimed at providing job opportunities for the participants, and also reducing the rate of unemployment, amongst the youth in the country.

The nationwide programme is expected to provide over 900 participants across the country, with various skills in traditional herbal medication, such as preparation of herbal concoctions, checking of blood pressure, general consultation, communication skills, vital science, botany, basic elements, and first aid in herbal treatment, and medication.

The six months training course, would be offered by qualified traditional herbal lecturers from the nation's universities.

Briefing The Chronicle on the nature of the programme, the Proprietor of the Medical Centre, said he decided to embark on the project, to offer an opportunity for people to also earn a living, in order to sustain their livelihood.

He said after taking participants through the various aspects of the course, an examination would be conducted by the lecturers, after which the qualified ones would be issued with certificates, and sponsored to establish their own medical sales outlets, with drugs and equipment to be supplied by his outfit, and other partners of the programme.

Dr. Ampoma said beneficiaries would be paid on a salary and on commission basis, and would be constantly monitored, to make sure they offer quality medical services to patients.

He said each participant was expected to pay an admission fee of GH¢1,500, to cover the three months duration, while hostel accommodation would also be provided for participants, who would want to stay on campus.
