New Anti-Malaria Drug

A new anti-malaria drug known as the alpha-Beta Arteether or e-mal injection has been launched in Accra. The injection which is used in the treatment of complicated malaria is the result of research carried out by scientists of the Central Drug Research Institute in India in collaboration with Themis Medicare also in India. The Deputy Director and Head of the Clinical and Experimental Medicine Division of CDRI, Dr. O.P. Asthana said the drug was approved for marketing in India and abroad after pre clinical studies and trials were undertaken to confirm its safety and efficacy. He said the product has been welcomed by the medical profession in several countries due to its superiority, safety and convenience over other anti-malaria drugs. The Managing Director of M and G Pharmaceuticals, Gopal Vasu said alpha-Beta Arteether has earned recognition in many Asian and African countries like Burma, Cambodia, Kenya, Malawi and Nigeria and will soon be introduced in other parts of the African continent.
