‘Avoid Favouritism In Recruitment’
RALPH NORDJO, a business consultant, has urged corporate organisations to avoid discrimination in recruiting labour and spur their workforce toward great achievements.
He said business entities should additionally encourage the development of environmentally-friendly technologies and work against all forms of corruption including extortion and bribery.
Making the call at a day's regional workshop organised by the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) at Takoradi, he urged businesses to acknowledge the relevance of integrating the Ghana Business Code 2006 into their corporate strategies and its subsequent implementation.
The Code comprised series of prescriptions based on the universal principles in the United Nations (UN) Global Compact relating to human rights, labour standards, the environment and anti-corruption.
Mr Benjamin Johnson Oduro , Project Manager for Improving Business Practice ( IBP) , a sub component of the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), noted the UN Global Compact was a voluntary initiative aimed at promoting good citizenship.
He encouraged businesses to uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining, reminding owners of business organizations to ensure that the rights to safe and healthy working environment, leisure and minimum wage were adhered to.
The Chairman of the Takoradi Regional Chamber of Commerce, Mr James Kainyiah stressed the need for all to adhere to the code, since it helped to increase employees' loyalty and productivity.
He advised companies to create cordial relationships between them and communities in their operational areas by considering those communities as stakeholders, and incorporating them in their planning.
