I will resume my parliamentary campaign only when NPP permits – Charles Bissue

2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Essikado-Ketan, Charles Cromwell Nanabanyin Onuawonto Bissue, has pledged to suspend his campaign activities until the party’s leadership gives the green light.

His decision follows a directive from the NPP headquarters ordering all prospective parliamentary aspirants, their agents and supporters to cease campaigning with immediate effect.

The party warned that anyone who defies the directive could face disciplinary action that may affect their eligibility to contest the upcoming parliamentary primaries.

In a press statement issued on Monday, October 12, Mr Bissue said he was committed to complying with the directive and had consistently urged party members in Essikado-Ketan to wait for the conclusion of the party’s internal electoral arrangements.

“As a long-standing member of the Party who has held various positions and helped shape its rules, I must lead by example and fully comply,” he said.

He also urged his supporters to stop circulating social media posts and other materials promoting his candidature until the party authorises campaigning to resume.

Mr Bissue further expressed concern about insults and personal attacks among NPP members on WhatsApp platforms, warning that such conduct could undermine party unity ahead of the 2028 general elections.

“I do not believe in the politics of insults; it does not augur well for our Party. I urge all my supporters to desist immediately. Let us compete on ideas, not insults,” he stated.

The NPP, in a separate statement dated October 11 and signed by its General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, directed prospective parliamentary aspirants to halt activities including rallies, meetings to solicit support, campaign advertising and the distribution of inducements to delegates.

The party said it would announce the timetable and guidelines for its parliamentary processes in due course, while constituency and regional executives have been tasked with ensuring compliance.
