Sam George, Armah-Kofi Buah, Phyllis Naa Koryoo and OPK among 1,568 lawyers called to Ghana Bar
A total of 1,568 newly qualified lawyers have been admitted to the Ghana Bar, among them four Members of Parliament and three media practitioners.
The ceremony, held on Friday, October 9, 2026, brought together the new lawyers after they had satisfied the requirements for entry into the legal profession.
The four MPs are Samuel Nartey George, MP for Ningo-Prampram and Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations; Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, MP for Ellembelle and Minister of Lands and Natural Resources; Davis Ansah Opoku, MP for Mpraeso; and Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor, MP for Awutu Senya East (Kasoa).
The media personalities admitted to the Bar are Umaru Sanda Amadu, a broadcast journalist with Channel One TV and Citi FM; Naa Ashorkor Duodu, a media personality and TV3 presenter with Media General; and broadcast journalist Ayisha Ibrahim.
A transition to professional practice
Addressing the gathering, Judicial Secretary Musah Ahmed described the call to the Bar as a significant transition from legal education to professional practice.
He explained that the General Legal Council (GLC), under Section 7 of the Legal Profession Act, 1960 (Act 32), is responsible for convening formal meetings for the enrolment and call to the Bar of qualified applicants.
Mr Ahmed said the ceremony represented more than the completion of an academic journey, noting that the legal profession required diligence, sacrifice and support from families.
He urged the newly qualified lawyers to recognise the responsibilities that came with their admission, particularly the duty to uphold the rule of law and respect the standards of the profession.
“As you prepare to receive your certificates, you do not only do so as an individual who has met an exacting standard, but also as officers of the court,” he said.
