Mahama Cares will not discriminate against patients based on political affiliation – Administrator
Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, known popularly as Mahama Cares, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, has assured Ghanaians that access to support from the Fund will not be influenced by political affiliation.
The Fund was established to help ease the financial burden associated with serious illnesses and strengthen access to specialised healthcare for Ghanaians.
Speaking at the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council during the Greater Accra edition of the fund's stakeholder engagement on Thursday, October 8, Obuobia said patients seeking support through the Fund would not be required to prove their political allegiance before receiving assistance.
“There's nothing political with what we do, and we want to emphasise that because when it comes to your health, there's nothing like political colours. Your health is your life. When you are not alive, you are dead. We will not do politics with this,” she said.
The Administrator said specialists and health professionals involved in the process would determine patients who require support, rather than political considerations.
She stressed that neither the beneficiaries nor their families would be required to present a party card or demonstrate their loyalty to any political party to access the Fund’s interventions.
“Nobody at any facility is asking for what card you have, how many years you have worked for that party. It doesn't happen with us, and it will never happen in this space. It's a promise we are giving to you, our stakeholders,” she said.
The stakeholder engagement formed part of efforts by the fund to deepen public awareness and collaboration around its mandate and the support available to patients.
