CPP launches nationwide membership drive, targets Ghanaian youth and professionals
The Convention People's Party (CPP) has launched a nationwide membership drive, urging Ghanaians, particularly the youth, farmers, market women, students and professionals, to join the party and help reshape the country's political landscape.
The party said the exercise was aimed at reaching Ghanaians who continued to believe in what it described as the “true Ghanaian dream”.
The Acting First Vice-Chairperson of the CPP Working Committee in charge of Finance, Joyce Larbie, announced the initiative in an interview with the Daily Graphic.
According to Mrs Larbie, the CPP, which led Ghana to independence under the leadership of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, remained committed to a political tradition focused on the interests and welfare of ordinary Ghanaians.
‘Time for change’
Mrs Larbie said Ghanaians had for years witnessed what she described as a “duopoly of disappointment”, with the country's two dominant political parties alternating in government while issues such as economic hardship, unemployment and debt remained.
“It is time to bring back the CPP that has the people at heart,” she said.
She said the CPP wanted to provide Ghanaians with a credible alternative political platform and contribute to what she described as meaningful change in the country's political landscape.
CPP's record
Mrs Larbie pointed to the CPP's historical record in industrialisation, education and healthcare as evidence of the party's contribution to Ghana's development.
She cited the establishment of state-owned enterprises, including Tema Steel, Akosombo Textiles, the Brick and Tile Factory and State Farms, as part of the CPP's efforts to promote industrialisation and economic development.
On education, she said the CPP championed free education from the primary level through to university, alongside the provision of free textbooks and boarding, to ensure that access to education was not determined by a family's financial circumstances.
She also cited the construction and expansion of hospitals and clinics as part of the CPP's contribution to improving healthcare delivery.
Simplified membership process
Mrs Larbie said the party had introduced a simplified registration process to make it easier for Ghanaians to join the CPP.
Prospective members can register by dialling 92018# on any mobile network.
“No long forms, no bureaucracy. Your membership is secured in minutes,” she said.
She encouraged Ghanaians seeking a different political direction to take advantage of the membership drive and join the party.
“We need to bring real change in the political landscape by bringing back the CPP,” Mrs Larbie said.
She added: “Let us restore the Ghana that works for all, not for a few.”
