Kaunda urges President Mahama to honour late Goasomanhene with lasting mwwemorial

Former NPP Ahafo Regional Deputy Organizer and Executive Director of EcoEye Africa, Kenneth‑Kweku Kaunda, is urging President John Dramani Mahama to consider establishing a major regional development project or permanent memorial in honour of the late Goasomanhene, Nana Kwasi Bosompra I.

Mr. Kaunda says such a gesture would be a fitting tribute to the late chief’s immense contribution to the growth of Goaso and the broader Ahafo Region.

He believes the proposed honour could take the form of a significant public project, an educational facility, a community initiative, or another enduring landmark that would preserve Nana Bosompra’s legacy for future generations.

Nana Kwasi Bosompra I was a highly respected traditional leader whose influence extended across the Ahafo Region. In 2021, he released about 320 acres of traditional land for key development projects, including land for the Regional Coordinating Council, a regional hospital, affordable housing, and other public infrastructure.

President Mahama has already extended condolences to the Goaso Traditional Council following the chief’s passing and has indicated his intention to attend the final funeral rites.

However, Mr. Kaunda argues that beyond condolences and participation in funeral ceremonies, a permanent memorial would ensure that the late Goasomanhene’s contribution to Ahafo’s development is properly acknowledged and remembered.

He noted that such a project would not only honour Nana Bosompra but also serve as a symbol of the vital role traditional leadership plays in regional development.

“This is not about politics. It is about preserving the memory and legacy of a traditional leader who contributed significantly to the development of Goaso and Ahafo. A lasting regional project in his honour would help future generations appreciate what he stood for and the role he played,” Mr. Kaunda said.

He therefore called on President Mahama and relevant authorities to engage the Goaso Traditional Council, the bereaved family, and other stakeholders to determine an appropriate form of recognition.

Mr. Kaunda believes such a gesture would provide a meaningful and lasting tribute to Nana Kwasi Bosompra I while giving the people of Ahafo a physical reminder of his impact on the region.
