NPP national executives' election results came as no surprise to me – Dr Ezekiel Obeng
A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Communications Team, Dr Ezekiel Obeng, says he was not surprised by any of the outcomes of the party’s recent national executive elections.
About 7,000 delegates of the opposition party took part of the opposition party's national executive elections held at the Kumasi Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Saturday, October 3.
According to Dr. Obeng, although some of the contests were expected to be competitive, the eventual results reflected the decisions of delegates who had the final authority to determine the winners.
Speaking on Accra-based Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Wednesday, October 7, Dr Obeng said the results did not come as a surprise to him.
“If you followed elections and electoral processes, nothing really comes as a surprise. The power belongs to the delegates or the voter. I wasn’t really surprised of any of the outcomes,” he said.
Dr Obeng also defended the emergence of Kojo Fosu Boadu, popularly known as Kojo Bamba, as First National Vice Chairman, describing his rapid rise within the party as an outcome of divine timing.
“If you are a believer in nature and you believe God and His timing, you’ll never be surprised of anything. We’ve seen the rise of people within a jiffy, within a second, so whatever Chairman Bamba sought to do, nature and divine authority aligned, and God gave him the glory he saw,” Dr Obeng said.
Dr Obeng further urged party members not to be distracted by criticism of the newly elected executives, saying the results were determined by the delegates and should be respected.
