Kojo Bamba is one of the answers to NPP’s 2024 defeat – Brako-Powers
Private legal practitioner Austin Brako-Powers has described the election of Kojo Bamba as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) First National Vice Chairman as one of the answers to the party’s defeat in the 2024 general election.
Kojo Bamba, a former leader of the pro-NPP Delta Force group, was elected First National Vice Chairman at the party’s National Delegates Conference held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on October 3.
He secured 3,116 votes to emerge ahead of Henry Nana Boakye, who polled 3,061 votes, and Nana Akomea, who obtained 2,987 votes.
Speaking on Accra-based TV3’s New Day programme on Tuesday, October 6, Brako-Powers said the NPP’s loss was partly due to its disconnect from its grassroots base.
He said Bamba’s election should therefore be seen as a decision by the party’s delegates to have a leader capable of reconnecting the party with its grassroots supporters.
He said Bamba’s victory reflects the desire of the grassroots for leaders who could mobilise them and better understand their concerns.
According to him, many NPP supporters in the party’s traditional strongholds stayed away from voting in 2024 because they felt the party had become disconnected from its grassroots.
He argued that Bamba’s experience as a grassroots mobiliser could help the party address that challenge as it prepares for the 2028 general election.
“It is one of the answers to NPP’s defeat in 2024. Because they lost their grassroots base. In some of their strongholds, their own members were not voting," the lawyer said.
