BoG identifies 20 unlicensed mobile loan apps operating in Ghana
The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has identified 20 mobile loan applications providing digital credit services in Ghana without the required licence or authorisation.
The central bank said the identified applications are operating in breach of the Directive for Digital Credit Service Providers in Ghana, issued in September 2025.
The BoG said the operations of the unlicensed providers raise concerns about customer data privacy, consumer protection and adherence to established regulatory standards.
The applications named by the central bank are Agile Loan, AmanaPay, CashWay, Foutou Credit, HastyCredit, InsCash, KudiNow, LendAura, Lever Credit, LoanGlide, NovaCedi, Palm Loan, PocketLoan, Rite Credit, SikaCare, SikaNow, Susu Loan, Taploan Up, Temivo Cedi and Zatuloan.
In a public notice, the BoG cautioned the public against engaging with digital lenders that have not obtained the necessary authorisation to operate in Ghana.
“The general public is therefore strongly advised not to engage with unlicensed loan providers. Banks and Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions (SDIs), Payment Service Providers (PSPs) are also cautioned against facilitating or processing transactions on behalf of unlicensed loan providers”, a statement from the Bank of Ghana cautioned.
The central bank said it was collaborating with relevant state institutions to identify and investigate entities providing digital credit services without authorisation.
It added that appropriate enforcement action would be taken against such operators as part of measures to protect consumers and safeguard the integrity, safety and stability of Ghana's financial sector.
The BoG further urged members of the public to report any suspected activities of unlicensed digital loan providers to the central bank.
