Police probe three children found dead in abandoned vehicle boot at Tamale zoo

The Northern Regional Police Command has launched investigations after the bodies of three children were found inside the boot of a vehicle at the Koblimahagu Zoo in the Tamale Metropolis.

The deceased have been identified as three-year-old Dauda Abdul Aziz, five-year-old Saani Alsharaf and seven-year-old Dauda Fadilan.

The children reportedly left their homes at about 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2026, to attend Islamic classes but did not return.

Their disappearance triggered a search by community members, which continued until about 5:00 a.m. on Monday, October 5, when the three bodies were discovered in the boot of a black Hyundai Tucson with registration number AS 1770-14.

According to the Police, the vehicle was found stuck in mud along a road leading to the area.

A preliminary inspection revealed that the driver's door and the rear passenger door behind the driver's seat were open. The remaining doors, including the boot, were found locked.

Police investigations have established that the vehicle belongs to a member of the Ghana Immigration Service.

The vehicle owner reportedly told investigators that it had been stuck in the mud for about five days.

In a statement issued on October 5, the Northern Regional Police Command said investigations had commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

The Inspector-General of Police has also deployed a specialised team of homicide investigators, crime scene experts and intelligence officers to Tamale to assist the regional command with the investigation.

The vehicle has since been secured for forensic examination, while an autopsy is expected to provide further information on the cause and circumstances of the children's deaths.

The Police said all necessary investigative measures were being taken to determine what led to the deaths.

The Command has appealed to the public to remain calm, assuring that further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
