The Newly Elected NPP National Executive is Weak
The NPP went to Baba Yara Sports Stadium on October 3, 2026 to elect a new set of National Executives to rescue the party after its defeat and lead it to 2028. What it produced is one of the weakest executive teams in the party's history.
This is a recycled leadership, not a renewed one. John Boadu, who was rejected by delegates as General Secretary in 2022, has been brought back as National Chairman. Justin Kodua Frimpong retained his position as General Secretary. The party that promised reorganization has simply rotated the same faces who led it into opposition.
Where is the strategic depth? Where is the new thinking?
The team is dominated by former government appointees and failed parliamentary candidates who have lost touch with the grassroots. Daniel Titus Glover as National Organiser, Mavis Hawa Koomson as Women's Organiser and others are names associated more with controversy in government than with effective party organization.
The Vice Chairman line up of Kojo Fosu Boadu, Henry Nana Boakye, and Nana Akomea, lacks a true electoral field commander. None of them has a track record of building a winning coalition beyond their own factions; they are talkers for TV and radio, not organizers for the polling station.
Most worrying is the lack of a clear generational bridge, the Youth Organiser, Abanga Yakubu Fuseini, won with only 1,550 votes in a low-energy contest, and the party's youth base remains demoralized after the 2024 loss. There is no crowd-puller, no unifier who can excite the base.
A strong executive needs credibility, unity, and strategy. This group has none. It is a compromise of factions, a Bawumia-leaning settlement, rather than a merit-based war cabinet for 2028. Boadu and Kodua were once rivals; now they are forced together. How long will that fragile peace last?
The NDC is reorganizing with hunger. The NPP has responded with weakness. If this executive is what will lead the party into 2028, then the party should prepare for another long stay in opposition.
