A1 Radio’s Moses Apiah wins 2025 Upper East Journalist of the Year Award

A1 Radio journalist, Moses Apiah has been adjudged the 2025 Upper East Regional Journalist of the Year at the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Upper East Regional Awards.

Moses Apiah emerged as the overall winner after competing with journalists from various media organisations across the region, earning recognition for his contributions to journalism and public-interest reporting.

His achievement was part of a strong showing by A1 Radio at the awards, with several journalists from the station picking up honours in various categories.

Among them was Mark Kwasi Ahumah Smith, who won both the Investigative Reporting and Agriculture categories.

Other A1 Radio journalists who received awards included David Azure, who won the Water and Sanitation and Most Promising Journalist of the Year categories. Moses Apiah also won awards in Child Protection and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights.

Dreamz FM also recorded notable successes, with Salifu Afangya winning the Sports category, James Tsiquaye taking the Radio Documentary award, Sarah Teni Babohima emerging winner in Gender, and Nicholas Azebire winning the Disability category.

Other category winners included Prosper Adankai of GBC-Ura Radio for Tourism, Arts and Culture; Peter Agengre of GBC for Environment and Education; and Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen of ApexNewsGh for Health.

Castro Senyalah of TV3 won Security Reporting, while Gilbert Azeem Tiroog of the Daily Graphic took both Peace and Conflict Sensitive Reporting and Mining and Natural Resources.

Francis Dabre Dabang of the New Times Corporation was adjudged winner of the Business and Economics Reporting category.

In the special categories, Gladys Apuweni of GBC-Ura Radio was named Female Journalist of the Year, while Caroline Abisiku of Bolgatanga Technical University won Student Journalist of the Year.

The awards seek to recognise journalists whose work contributes to public education, accountability and development in the Upper East Region.

The 2026 edition marks the fifth Upper East Regional GJA Awards, an initiative aimed at celebrating excellence in journalism and encouraging quality reporting on issues affecting the region.
