Asthma Ghana donates GH¢50,000 worth of aerochambers to Ho Teaching Hospital
The Ho Teaching Hospital (HTH) has taken delivery of 100 aerochambers valued at GH¢50,000 from Asthma Ghana to boost the management of asthma and other respiratory conditions at the facility.
The donation was made on September 29, 2025, at a brief ceremony at the hospital, where the items were presented by the Founder and Executive Director of Asthma Ghana, Prof. Victor Wutor.
The devices were formally received on behalf of the Hospital Management by Madam Senam Kove, Head of the Domestic Sub-BMC, who expressed appreciation for the timely support.
Aerochambers, also known as valved holding chambers or spacers, are used together with metered-dose inhalers to improve drug delivery to the lungs. They are particularly helpful for patients who struggle to coordinate inhaler activation with breathing.
According to health officials, the devices are most beneficial to young children, some elderly patients, and individuals experiencing acute respiratory distress, who often face challenges using inhalers correctly.
Hospital authorities say the donation will significantly support services at its Asthma Clinic, Paediatrics Department, and the Accident and Emergency Unit, where both acute and chronic respiratory cases are managed daily.
Presenting the items, Prof. Wutor explained that the intervention is part of Asthma Ghana’s broader mandate to promote asthma awareness, educate communities on proper disease management, and equip health facilities with essential respiratory care tools.
He stressed that effective management of asthma remains a core health priority in Ghana, noting that correct inhaler technique can make a substantial difference in treatment outcomes and reduce preventable complications for patients and families.
Prof. Wutor added that Asthma Ghana is keen to build a sustained partnership with Ho Teaching Hospital and is open to exploring further areas of support based on identified needs at the facility.
Receiving the donation, Madam Kove thanked Asthma Ghana for the gesture, describing it as a timely contribution that will strengthen respiratory healthcare delivery and improve access to quality care, especially for vulnerable patients.
She further noted that collaborations with civil society organisations and other stakeholders remain crucial in complementing government efforts to enhance healthcare delivery at the hospital.
