NHIA CEO pays courtesy call on Sunyanimanhene
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, has paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area and President of the Sunyani Traditional Council, Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, as part of his working visit to the Bono Region.
The CEO was accompanied by the Bono Regional Manager of the NHIA, Mr. Isaac Amponsah, and other senior officials of the Authority.
During the visit to the Sunyanimanhene's palace on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, Dr. Bampoe congratulated the traditional ruler on his recent gazettement and sought his counsel and support, particularly in view of his previous service with the NHIA.
Welcoming the delegation, Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II expressed appreciation to Dr. Bampoe and his team for the visit, saying he was particularly delighted to reconnect with some of his former colleagues after about 20 years.
The Paramount Chief commended the CEO for what he described as the timely payment of claims without unnecessary delays since assuming office, noting that the development had contributed to improving the effectiveness and operations of the Authority.
He also praised Dr. Bampoe for promoting long-serving staff members, including drivers, and undertaking renovation works at various regional offices of the NHIA.
Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II further commended the Bono Regional Manager, Mr. Isaac Amponsah, for his commitment and performance since assuming office.
He particularly acknowledged Mr. Amponsah's personal involvement in National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration exercises in various communities, describing it as a demonstration of his dedication to expanding access to health insurance services.
Claims processing
The Sunyanimanhene made several recommendations aimed at strengthening the operations of the NHIA in the Bono Region and beyond.
He urged the CEO to establish a Claims Processing Centre (CPC) in Sunyani to facilitate the faster processing and payment of claims submitted by healthcare providers in the region.
In support of the proposed project, the Paramount Chief offered one acre of land to the NHIA for the establishment of the centre.
He also called for greater decentralisation of the Authority's operations to the regional level, stressing that empowering regional offices would enable them to respond more efficiently to the needs of healthcare providers and beneficiaries.
The traditional ruler further urged the CEO to strengthen measures to combat illegal payments and other improper practices involving healthcare service providers, emphasising the need to protect the integrity of the National Health Insurance Scheme.
Staff Welfare
On staff welfare, Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II encouraged the CEO to continue prioritising the welfare of workers, describing it as essential to the effective functioning of the Authority.
He also urged staff of the NHIA to support the CEO and management in achieving the objectives of the Authority rather than engaging in actions that could undermine their efforts.
The visit provided an opportunity for the NHIA leadership and the traditional authority to discuss measures to improve the operations of the Scheme and strengthen access to healthcare financing in the Bono Region.
