Captain Smart urges Gomoa chiefs, residents to protect peace for development and progress
Aspiring National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Gomoa West, Captain Blessed Godsbrain Smart, has urged chiefs and residents of the Gomoa Assin Akyampim Traditional Area to protect the peace in the area, describing it as essential to the progress of every society.
The veteran broadcaster made the call at a grand durbar held at the Gomoa Ojobi Community Centre on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, to mark the 25th anniversary of the enstoolment of the Paramount Chief of the Gomoa Assin Akyampim Traditional Area, Obirifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II.
Captain Smart urged residents across Gomoa to put aside their differences, maintain peace and work together towards achieving their shared aspirations.
He stressed that sustained peace was necessary for education, business and other aspects of community development to thrive.
“Without peace, can children go to school? Without peace, can businesses thrive and flourish?”
He commended Obirifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II for maintaining peace during his 25-year reign and called on the people to continue supporting his efforts to promote unity and development within the traditional area.
Addressing concerns about chieftaincy disputes in Gomoa, Captain Smart acknowledged that the area had enjoyed relative peace but noted that disagreements over the rightful occupants of some stools remained a concern.
“Sometimes, when you visit some areas within Gomoa, there is more than one occupant of a stool, and it becomes difficult to determine who sits to receive homage from guests,” he said.
He appealed to the paramountcy and other traditional leaders in the Gomoa enclave to find effective and lasting ways of resolving such disputes to preserve the peace and stability of the area.
Captain Smart also urged residents to respect and support their traditional leaders, stressing that the authority and stature of a traditional ruler were strengthened by the loyalty and support of the people.
“A king is as big as the citizens who support and honour him,” he said.
He further cautioned residents against insulting or denigrating their traditional leaders.
“If you insult your king, you invoke a curse on your life,” he cautioned.
In his concluding remarks, Captain Smart expressed appreciation to Obirifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II and the 25th Anniversary Planning Committee for inviting him to chair the commemorative event, describing the opportunity as a humbling honour.
Obirifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II has served as the Omanhene and President of the Gomoa Assin Traditional Council in the Central Region since 2001.
He was enstooled following the death of the previous paramount chief, Okukutah Ahunaku Acquah I, by the kingmakers of the six royal gates of the Royal Asona Family.
The traditional area under his authority covers more than 165 towns and villages in the Gomoa West District and surrounding areas.
