GIPC On Fire
INFORMATION reaching CITY&BUSINESS GUIDE indicates that the stalemate at the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) is far from over, as workers and management of the outfit continue to make divergent claims about the on-going restructuring exercise.
Report says the workers of the Centre were still not happy about the restructuring exercise being embarked upon by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the centre, Robert Ahomka-Lindsay.
They therefore called on President Kufuor to remove him from office.
Meanwhile, efforts to get Mr. Ahomka-Lindsay's reaction to this story yesterday proved futile as he was not in his office and his phone was also off when this reporter tried to call him.
It would be recalled that a section of the GIPC staff last year demonstrated against the CEO saying they could no longer work with him.
The workers, clad in red bands, wielded placards, some of which read: 'Mr. President, we don't want to work with the new Chief Executive any more because of his cruelty towards staff', 'Pay us utility bills immediately and restore our accommodation', and 'We don't want Ahomka'.
“The CEO had been arrogant and high-handed in running the place,” the workers alleged. But in a swift response, the Board of Directors had washed their hands off the allegations.
According to a release signed by E. Ofori, Board Chairman of GIPC, the allegations were unfounded and called on the general public to come over for their usual business.
It noted that the board was absolutely confident with the administrative class of Ahomka-Lindsay, saying it had a vision of developing the centre into a first-class agency.
“The Board would also like to state, for the avoidance of doubt, that any measure(s), which has been introduced by the CEO, are with the knowledge and approval of he Board,” the response maintained.
