Prince Sanyang bets on digital economy, innovation to lift Gambians out of poverty
The leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters - The Gambia (EFF-Gambia), His Royal Highness (HRH) Prince Ebrahim Sanyang, has unveiled plans to transform The Gambia into a digital powerhouse, describing technology as “the fastest ladder out of poverty.”
While the movement has outlined a broad set of policies across different sectors, Prince Sanyang says that, if elected, building a robust digital economy and innovation ecosystem will be among his administration’s top priorities.
Broadband as an Economic Right
At the core of the agenda is a declaration that broadband will no longer be treated as a luxury, but as an economic right for every Gambian household.
Sanyang said his government will guarantee affordable, high-speed internet across the country, bridging the digital divide between urban and rural areas and ensuring students, farmers, and small businesses can access online opportunities.
Tech Hubs and Youth Innovation
To turn access into productivity, EFF-Gambia plans to establish tech innovation hubs in every region.
The hubs will serve as incubation centres for young Gambians to learn coding, develop apps, build start-ups, and create technology rather than just consume it.
“This will give our youth the tools to solve Gambian problems with Gambian solutions and compete globally,” Prince Sanyang noted.
Digitising Government to Fight Corruption
The third pillar of the policy is the full digitisation of government services.
By moving public services online — from business registration and land administration to tax payment and procurement — Sanyang says his government will cut bureaucracy, reduce human interaction that breeds corruption, and make service delivery faster and more transparent.
He argued that a digital government will save resources, curb leakages, and restore public trust in the state.
According to Prince Sanyang, the digital economy strategy links directly to his zero-unemployment mission, as it will create thousands of jobs in software development, digital services, e-commerce, tech-enabled agriculture, and logistics.
