Police recover AK-47, 28 rounds of ammunition; suspect killed in Binduri operation

The police have recovered an AK-47 rifle and 28 rounds of ammunition following an intelligence-led operation in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region.

The operation, conducted in collaboration with the military, was launched in response to recent shooting incidents and other firearm-related offences recorded in the district.

However, a 32-year-old suspect identified as Isaka Sabani, alias “Culture”, sustained gunshot wounds during the operation and subsequently died.

In a statement issued on Thursday night, the police said preliminary investigations had established that Sabani was wanted in connection with an attempted murder and unlawful discharge of firearms case reported at the Bawku Police Station on August 28, 2026.

The police further indicated that the suspect was allegedly involved in a series of shooting incidents at Agenda 111, Aniisi and Gumyoko in the Binduri District on August 29, 30 and 31, 2026.

The police said investigations into the incidents and the recovery of the firearm and ammunition were continuing.
