Gomoa Central MP A-Plus accuses Police of killing two, injuring 19 in New Winneba deadly clash
Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has accused the police of using excessive force during a violent confrontation between residents of Gomoa Oguaakrom and New Winneba in the Central Region.
According to the MP, police officers who responded to the incident allegedly fired live ammunition at residents, resulting in the deaths of two people and injuries to 19 others.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, A-Plus questioned why the police arrived at the scene and opened fire.
He alleged that the officers may have acted on instructions from a higher authority.
A-Plus also claimed that one of the two people allegedly killed by the police was shot at a location some distance away from the main area of the confrontation.
He further challenged the police to provide evidence for claims that some residents of Gomoa Oguaakrom were armed when they entered New Winneba.
The MP's comments follow a violent confrontation between residents of the two communities, which is believed to be connected to a longstanding dispute over land ownership.
The trouble reportedly started after some residents of Gomoa Oguaakrom entered New Winneba and allegedly attempted to lock up shops in the area. Residents of New Winneba are said to have resisted the move, resulting in a confrontation that later escalated.
A-Plus disputed the narrative that the Gomoa residents had gone into the community with guns.
He also accused the police of applying wrong standards in dealing with violent incidents, arguing that authorities had previously failed to take decisive action against people accused of attacking individuals at police premises.
The MP said the latest incident highlights the need for authorities to address the underlying land dispute rather than allowing tensions between the two communities to continue escalating.
