67 injured in road crash involving two buses on Kumasi-Accra Highway
Sixty-seven people have sustained various degrees of injuries after two Grandbird buses collided at Duapompo on the Kumasi-Accra Highway.
The accident occurred at about 10:31 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, according to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer.
The injured victims, according to the GNFS, were rescued and transported to the Konongo Government Hospital for treatment.
“Sixty-seven victims who sustained various injuries were rescued by the public before the crew arrived and conveyed to Konongo Government Hospital.”
The buses involved were a VIP Granbird, with registration number GW-5373-23, owned by Chairman ION and driven by Simon Azuma, and a KN KIA Granbird, with registration number AK-980-26, owned by KOD Transport and driven by Francis Yeboah.
The GNFS said the VIP driver was trapped in the vehicle following the collision and had to be rescued by firefighters.
“The VIP driver who was trapped was rescued by the crew using a spreader in a dashboard roll method and conveyed by an Ambulance GV 589-20," the statement noted.
The crash resulted in partial damage to the cowl of the VIP Granbird and the rear section of the KN KIA Granbird.
The cause of the accident remains unknown, with the GNFS saying investigations are underway to establish what led to the collision.
