Afua Kobi Ampem Girls SHS builds multipurpose drone for firefighting, intelligence and surveillance
The Engineering Club of Afua Kobi Ampem Girls Senior High School has built a new multipurpose drone designed for intelligence gathering, delivery, firefighting and marine patrol.
The drone, according to the club, can also be deployed for surveillance, border patrol and other security-related operations.
The project was led by the club's lead engineer and tutor, Sir Ferdinand Sam, who disclosed that the drone was solely built by the students as part of their Aerospace practicals.
Speaking to OTEC News reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng on Wednesday, Sir Sam said the first test flight of the drone has been successfully conducted on the Suhum By-pass Road.
He noted that the test flight provided valuable lessons, with the club now taking steps to upgrade the drone for more effective operational use.
"The drone has a wingspan of 4 meters, length of 3.5 meters, 1.4 meters height, coming with 19.5 kilograms weight. Leading the students, we built the drone from scratch and the idea is to develop solutions to our everyday problems in the country," he stated.
Sir Sam added that the innovation demonstrates the immense potential of Ghanaian students when given the needed practical exposure and support in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
