I assume my role as Environment Minister with deep sense of responsibility – Zanetor
Newly sworn-in Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, has pledged to serve with integrity, humility and purpose in her new role.
She said her focus would be on using science, technology and innovation to support Ghana’s development while addressing pressing environmental challenges.
Dr Zanetor identified climate change, illegal mining, waste management, pollution and the sustainable use of natural resources as some of the key issues requiring urgent attention.
In a social media post on Monday, August 31, the Minister expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the confidence reposed in her through her appointment.
“I do not take this responsibility lightly. Public service is, first and foremost, a call to duty, sacrifice and stewardship,” she said.
“I come into this role with a deep sense of responsibility and an unwavering commitment to serve,” Dr Zanetor added.
Dr Zanetor said science, technology and innovation could open a new chapter in Ghana’s development if research was translated into practical solutions.
She called for stronger partnerships between government, the private sector, civil society, communities and universities to create jobs, strengthen industry and improve sectors such as agriculture and healthcare.
On environmental protection, she said Ghana’s natural resources must be treated as an inheritance to be protected rather than merely exploited.
She said the country’s forests, water bodies, land, air, flora and fauna must be preserved for both present and future generations.
