IGP decorates officer promoted for saving lives during Aboso fire
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has decorated Chief Inspector Hance Atubra of the Tarkwa Divisional Headquarters following his promotion for saving lives during a fire outbreak at Aboso in the Western Region.
Chief Inspector Atubra was promoted in recognition of his bravery and efforts to rescue people and protect property during the fire on August 26.
He was decorated with his new rank by the IGP at the National Police Headquarters in Accra on Monday, August 31.
“The IGP commended him for his courage, quick response and dedication to duty, noting that his actions exemplify the values of professionalism and service expected of Police officers," the police said in a statement.
The fire broke out at the Aboso Main Lorry Station on August 26, engulfing several shops and destroying property.
Chief Inspector Atubra, who was then an Inspector at the Tarkwa Divisional Headquarters, was reportedly the first police officer to arrive at the scene.
Upon arrival, he immediately moved to assist people trapped in the affected area and helped evacuate them to safety.
His actions attracted commendation from witnesses at the scene, who subsequently recommended him for promotion.
The Police Administration said the promotion was intended to recognise his courage, quick response and commitment to protecting lives and property.
“Inspector Atubra was promoted in recognition of his bravery and exceptional efforts in saving lives and protecting property during a fire outbreak at Aboso in the Western Region on 26th August 2026," the police noted.
The IGP subsequently invited him to the National Police Headquarters on Monday, where he formally decorated him with the rank of Chief Inspector.
