NPP National Elections: 47 aspirants begin vetting today as Wontumi, two others drop out
Vetting for aspirants seeking national executive positions in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has begun today, August 31, 2026, and will continue until September 3.
The exercise follows the close of nominations last Saturday, with 47 aspirants successfully filing to contest various positions in the party’s 2026 National Officers Elections.
A total of 50 individuals had initially purchased nomination forms, but three failed to complete the filing process before the deadline.
Those who did not file include former Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, who had expressed interest in the National Chairperson position; Evans Kodom, who intended to contest the National Communications Director position; and Perpetual Ekua Lomokie Akwada, who sought to become National Women’s Organiser.
Vetting schedule
A statement signed by the Chairman of the National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC), Frederick Opare-Ansah, said the 47 aspirants who completed the filing process would proceed to vetting.
According to the Committee, Mr Antwi-Boasiako formally communicated his decision to withdraw his candidature, while Mr Kodom announced his withdrawal when he accompanied Dennis Miracles Aboagye to file his nomination forms.
Mr Aboagye is consequently the only aspirant proceeding to the vetting stage for the National Communications Director position.
For the National Women’s Organiser position, the Committee said Ms Akwada failed to submit her completed nomination forms to the Secretariat before the 6 p.m. deadline and would therefore not proceed to vetting.
Aspirants for National Chairperson, General Secretary and National Treasurer are being vetted today, August 31.
Candidates for the three designated Vice-Chairperson positions will undergo vetting on September 1, followed by aspirants for National Organiser and National Youth Organiser on September 2.
The process will conclude on September 3 with the vetting of candidates for National Communications Director, National Nasara Organiser and National Women’s Organiser.
NOEC urges unity
The Elections Committee commended the aspirants and their representatives for what it described as the orderly conduct of the nomination and filing processes.
It also praised the Secretariat and other officials involved in receiving, documenting and securely processing the nomination forms.
The Committee urged aspirants, their supporters and party members to maintain mutual respect and conduct themselves in a manner that promotes unity and confidence in the electoral process.
It reaffirmed its commitment to conducting the 2026 National Officers Elections in accordance with the NPP Constitution and the rules and regulations governing the polls.
NPP elections set for October 3
The NPP’s National Officers Elections are scheduled for October 3, 2026.
The elections will cover nine categories of national executive positions, including the National Chairperson, General Secretary, National Organiser, National Women’s Organiser, National Communications Director, National Treasurer, National Youth Organiser and National Nasara Organiser.
The Vice-Chairperson position will have four slots, three of which will be designated First, Second and Third Vice-Chairpersons, bringing the total number of national executive positions to 11.
