I’m ready to be Bawumia’s running mate – Patrick Yaw Boamah
Member of Parliament(MP) for Okaikwei Central, Hon Patrick Yaw Boamah, has expressed his willingness to serve as the running mate to former Vice President and current flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, if he is called upon to take up the role.
Speaking on UTV, Boamah was asked about his readiness to become Dr. Bawumia’s running mate in the 2028 presidential election. He responded affirmatively, making it clear that he would be prepared to accept the responsibility if the opportunity arises.
“I am ready to serve as Dr. Bawumia’s running mate if I am called upon to do so,” he stated.
Boamah further indicated that he would have no reason to turn down such an opportunity if the party’s leadership considers him suitable for the position.
“Why won’t I do it? Yes, I will do it,” he said.
Earlier this year, Frederick Opare-Ansah, a former campaign manager for New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, called on party members to slow down discussions about who should join him on the ticket for the 2028 general elections, describing the conversation as premature and potentially distracting.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr Opare-Ansah said the immediate focus for the party should be rebuilding after a bruising political season, not ticket balancing.
“It is way too early to have conversations about a running mate. Our biggest challenge now is to reorganise. We must be patient,” he stated.
He emphasized that any decision on a vice-presidential candidate must be strategic, taking into account the political environment at the time, including the identity and strength of the opposition’s flagbearer.
“We do not even know who the NDC will bring. In choosing a running mate, it is a strategic move. Depending on their candidate, you need to choose from a prime area, otherwise it can affect you,” he explained.
