Nana Akomea files nomination to contest NPP First Vice Chairmanship race
Former Information Minister and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Director of Communications, Nana Akomea, has officially filed his nomination to contest the position of First Vice Chairman in the party’s upcoming national executive elections.
His decision adds another experienced figure to the race as the NPP prepares to elect its next national leadership team.
Nana Akomea has held several senior positions in both the NPP and government, giving him extensive experience in party administration, politics and strategic communications.
He served as the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei South from 1997 to 2013 and was later appointed Minister of Information under former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
He also served as the NPP’s Director of Communications and was actively involved in the party’s 2016 presidential campaign, which culminated in the NPP’s return to power after eight years in opposition.
The First Vice Chairman position is one of the key national executive positions within the party, with responsibilities including supporting the administration and organisational activities of the NPP at the national level.
Nana Akomea’s entry is expected to further heighten competition for the position as the party begins preparations for its 2026 national executive elections.
Reports indicate that 13 aspirants are seeking the three vice-chairmanship positions.
The NPP has scheduled the vetting of aspirants for September 1, 2026, with the national executive elections expected to take place in October.
Nana Akomea’s candidature is therefore set to bring his political and communications experience into what is expected to be a keenly contested race for the party’s next leadership team.
