Ridge Hospital again as husband vows to seek justice over wife’s death
A grieving husband has accused the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, popularly known as Ridge Hospital, of failing his wife during childbirth, days before her death following what he described as a scheduled Caesarean section.

fori Asante said his wife, Theresa Boakye Dua, died on July 16, 2026, just 19 months after their marriage, leaving behind their newborn son.
In an emotional tribute ahead of her burial on Friday, August 28, Mr Asante said his wife had entrusted her care to Ridge Hospital for an elective Caesarean section but did not survive the procedure.
He alleged that decisions taken by some medical personnel at the hospital contributed to her death, describing the experience as a “horrific ordeal” for his wife, their families and himself.
“Theresa’s only fault was being pregnant and placing her trust in Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital) for a scheduled, elective Caesarean section,” he wrote.
Mr Asante said the death had left him struggling to come to terms with raising their son without his wife.
“Our baby boy has been robbed of the unconditional love of a devoted mother,” he said, expressing pain at the thought of his son growing up without the woman who had hoped to raise him.
He also spoke about the impact of Theresa’s death on her parents, particularly her mother, who he said was now mourning the loss of her only child.
According to Mr Asante, the family was also forced to bring Theresa’s father back to Ghana earlier than planned.
He said his father-in-law had travelled outside Ghana earlier in the year and was not expected to return until 2027. Mr Asante said picking him up from the airport two weeks ago was among the most painful experiences he had endured since losing his wife.
He added that Theresa’s death had deeply affected her colleagues at the Ministry of Health, members of ICGC Covenant Temple and their wider circle of friends.
Describing his late wife as “a gentle, peaceful and unproblematic soul”, Mr Asante said her death had left the family with deep emotional scars.
He accused some individuals at Ridge Hospital of making what he described as reckless decisions and said the circumstances surrounding his wife’s death required answers.
Mr Asante further alleged that the family experienced what he described as “unprofessionalism, manipulation and extortion” during the ordeal.
He, however, did not provide detailed evidence in his statement to substantiate those allegations.
The grieving husband said his decision to speak publicly about the circumstances surrounding his wife’s death was motivated not only by a desire for accountability but also by the need to prevent other families from experiencing a similar tragedy.
“Will this bring back the life of my wife? Absolutely not,” he wrote. “But so that no other pregnant woman or family has to endure this living nightmare.”
Mr Asante said he would lay his wife to rest on Friday but would continue pursuing answers about the circumstances surrounding her death.
After 19 months of marriage, he is now facing life as a widower while caring for their newborn son.
“I will lay you to rest today with an intensely heavy heart as I promised you, but know that our fight for truth does not end here,” he wrote.
He ended the tribute by promising to remain strong for their son and reaffirming his love for his late wife.
“I love you endlessly, T,” he wrote. “Da yie, me dɔfo pa.”
