Sokode to get dedicated lorry station as Ho Assembly plans more mini stations

The Ho Municipal Assembly has announced plans to establish additional lorry stations within Ho and its surrounding communities as part of efforts to ease traffic congestion, reduce pedestrian and motorist casualties, and minimise long waiting times for commuters.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ho, Hon. Stephen Adom, disclosed this during an interview at the maiden edition of the “MCE’s Time with Chiefs and Queen Mothers” held on August 27, 2026.

The engagement was organised to enable the MCE to account for his stewardship and update traditional authorities on developments undertaken during his first year in office.

According to Hon. Adom, the Assembly is far advanced with plans to establish a dedicated lorry park around the new Sokode-Etoe Abattoir to serve commuters from Sokode.

He expressed concern over the current practice of taxis from Sokode using the roundabout as a daily loading point, describing it as a violation of road-use regulations and a contributor to traffic congestion.

The MCE also disclosed that another mini lorry station would be established around the Nurses Training School Junction in collaboration with the Ho Teaching Hospital to facilitate easier movement between Ho and surrounding communities.

As part of immediate measures to ease congestion at the main lorry station, Hon. Adom said the Assembly had begun relocating some transport operators to the Klefe station, which he noted was largely underutilised except on market days.

Addressing the broader traffic situation in Ho, the MCE acknowledged that the inadequate number of designated lorry stations was a major factor contributing to congestion within the township.

He, however, assured residents that the Assembly had concrete plans to address the challenge.

He said the planned 24-hour market project would be developed into a business enclave featuring a large lorry terminal and spare parts shops, creating a one-stop hub for motorists and traders.

Hon. Adom expressed confidence that the completion of the proposed transport terminals would significantly improve traffic flow within Ho while creating a more organised and safer transport system for commuters, motorists and pedestrians.
