Strengthen preventive maintenance and system monitoring — Energy Minister charges GRIDCo
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has charged the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) to strengthen its preventive maintenance and power restoration systems to improve the reliability of electricity supply.
He said the company must also improve system monitoring, protection coordination and its preparedness to restore power quickly whenever faults occur.
Dr Jinapor made the call in a social media post on Friday, August 28, after participating in GRIDCo’s 13th Annual General Meeting, where the company’s performance for 2025 was reviewed.
“I charged GRIDCo to strengthen preventive maintenance, system monitoring, protection coordination and restoration preparedness, while embracing innovative technologies to improve reliability,” his post read in part.
According to the Minister, every fault recorded by GRIDCo must provide lessons to help prevent similar incidents in the future.
He said the company must ensure that identified weaknesses result in concrete corrective measures.
“Every fault must generate lessons, and every identified weakness must lead to corrective action,” Dr Jinapor stated.
He commended the Board, Management and staff of GRIDCo for what he described as a strong performance in 2025.
GRIDCo transmitted a record 25,860 GWh of electricity during the year and recorded a profit after tax of GH¢584.46 million.
Dr Jinapor also praised the company for its role in restoring power following the Akosombo incident.
He said the government would continue to support critical investments in the transmission sector, including the Eastern Corridor Transmission Backbone.
The Minister stressed that increased generation capacity must be supported by a resilient transmission network to strengthen Ghana’s energy security.
