Ho MCE accounts to chiefs, queen mothers on development projects

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ho, Hon. Stephen Adom, has engaged traditional authorities in the municipality to account for his stewardship and update them on development projects undertaken since assuming office.

The engagement with Chiefs and Queen Mothers was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the Ho Municipal Assembly and traditional authorities while providing a comprehensive update on projects, achievements, challenges and ongoing initiatives across the municipality.

Mr Adom said the Assembly had made progress in healthcare, roads, education, water supply, sanitation, housing, sports and digital connectivity.

He cited the construction of two-unit nurses’ quarters at Tokokoe and Matse, as well as CHPS compounds at Ziavi Bamefedo and Takla Atiyinu, as some of the interventions in the health sector.

On roads, he highlighted the Anyirawase-Sokode dual carriageway, Guinness-Tritrinu dual carriageway, Sokode-Etoe-Tritrinu bypass, Ho-Agortime Kpetoe dual carriageway and Ho-Kpenoe-Takla-Hodzo-Tokokoe road.

He said township roads at Tanyigbe and Akoefe had also received attention, while pothole patching and routine maintenance continued across the municipality.

According to the MCE, equipment under the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) was being deployed for haulage, road reshaping and the opening of new roads.

In education, Mr Adom mentioned the construction of the Ho Municipal Education Office complex and classroom blocks at Nyive, Hodzo Alavanyo, Kpenoe, Matse and Avee.

He said the Assembly had also completed staff accommodation, an administration block, library and computer laboratory for Tanyigbe Senior High School.

Mr Adom explained that the Tanyigbe SHS project, which was initiated in 2016 but stalled for several years, was revived and re-awarded in 2025 to ensure its completion.

On water supply, he disclosed that the Assembly had drilled and mechanised boreholes in about 30 communities and institutions, including SSNIT Flats, Ho Municipal Hospital, Heve, Regional Model School, Bankoe, Dome, Akoefe Tokor, Taviefe, Tanyigbe, Klefe, Sokode and Ho Central Market.

He said the interventions were aimed at addressing persistent water challenges across the municipality.

Mr Adom also said communities such as Akoefe, Tokokoe, Hodzo, Avee and Lume had benefited from equipment under the Rural Telephony Project to improve communication and expand digital connectivity.

On sanitation, the MCE said the Assembly had intensified communal cleaning exercises under the Mawuleme movement and cleared long-standing refuse dumps.

He disclosed that four motorbikes and a tricycle had been provided to the Environmental Health Department to strengthen monitoring and enforcement.

Mr Adom said the ongoing market decongestion exercise was intended to reclaim pavements for pedestrians and create a safer environment for traders and other residents.

He further explained that operations at the old abattoir at Ho Zongo had been relocated to the modern facility at Sokode due to health and safety concerns.

According to him, the Assembly was already in advanced discussions with a company from Jamaica and other countries to take over operations at the old abattoir.

He added that the Assembly was also seeking to work with local suppliers capable of providing large quantities of chicken to support the operations of the facility.

On sports, the MCE disclosed that renovation works had commenced at the Ho Sports Stadium in collaboration with the Volta Regional Coordinating Council.

He said the Assembly was also working with the Tema Development Company to introduce an affordable housing project in the municipality.

Mr Adom added that ongoing streetlight repairs were helping to improve visibility and security in various communities at night.

The MCE emphasised the importance of traditional authorities in the development of the municipality, saying the Assembly had maintained a cordial relationship with Chiefs and religious leaders through regular dialogue and consultation.

He expressed appreciation to the traditional authorities for their guidance and called for continued cooperation among the Assembly, Chiefs, religious bodies and residents to promote peace and accelerate development in Ho.

Responding to concerns and requests from some communities, Mr Adom assured the traditional authorities that the Assembly would address the needs of all communities progressively, based on their priorities and the resources available.
