Pindaa residents call for urgent construction of bridge over Pindaa River

Residents of Pindaa in the Kasena Nankana Municipality of the Upper East Region are calling for the urgent construction of a bridge over the Pindaa River, saying the absence of a safe crossing is severely disrupting daily life and economic activity.

According to the residents, they are often forced to swim across the river to reach Navrongo and neighbouring communities — including Gua No. 1, Gua No. 2 and Gua No. 3, especially during periods of flooding. They explained that the Pindaa River flows from Burkina Faso into the Tono Dam, and rising water levels pose a major challenge to movement and safety.

The situation, they noted, has negatively affected farming, healthcare delivery and education. Residents are unable to travel to market centres during heavy rainfall, while the lack of a bridge continues to restrict movement, slow economic activity and hinder the overall development of Pindaa and surrounding communities.

The residents are therefore appealing to the Kasena Nankana Municipal Assembly, the Member of Parliament for the area, Simon Akibange Aworigo, and the central government to intervene urgently by constructing a bridge that will provide a safe and reliable link between Pindaa, Navrongo and adjoining communities.

They stressed that such a bridge would not only save lives but also improve access to education, healthcare, markets and other essential services, while opening up the area for greater economic development.
