Osahen Afenyo-Markin sues Sammy Gyamfi, others over extortion allegation
Minority Leader in Parliament, Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin has said he has consequently initiated legal action against Mr Gyamfi and the Multimedia Group Limited at the Accra High Court, as well as Eric Agyei and Peace FM at the Achimota Circuit Court.
Mr Afenyo-Markin expressed confidence that the courts would ultimately determine the merits of the cases and establish the facts surrounding the allegations.
“I have every confidence that in the fullness of time, the courts will make the appropriate determination on these matters,” he said.
Addressing Parliament on Monday evening, August 24, during the opening of the House's special sitting, the Minority Leader said he had chosen to rely on due process to clear his name following the allegations against him.
According to him, he is prepared to submit himself to any investigation by the Ghana Police Service, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) or any other competent authority over allegations of extortion levelled against him by the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi.
Mr Afenyo-Markin said he expected those who had accused him to formally report the matter to the appropriate investigative authorities so that the allegations could be thoroughly examined.
“I expect that if they muster the courage and report that I have extorted from them and I am invited, I shall submit myself to every investigation so that eventually my name is cleared,” he said.
He maintained that he was willing to cooperate fully with any lawful investigation into the allegations and trusted that the appropriate processes would eventually vindicate his position.
