‘I don’t support calls to remove Afenyo‑Markin as minority leader’ — Sticka
The Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Hon. Dr. Stephen Amoah, has urged members of the Minority Caucus to rally behind their Leader, Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo‑Markin, amid allegations of extortion levelled against him.
Dr. Amoah, popularly known as Sticka, described the recent attacks on the Minority Leader as politically motivated and part of a calculated attempt to silence him from holding government accountable.
“I don’t subscribe to those saying we should remove him from the post. The task ahead of us is daunting. What will we gain if he is removed? I don’t support that,” Sticka stated.
His comments follow accusations by the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, who alleged that Afenyo‑Markin engaged in political blackmail and extortion after raising concerns over losses in the Bank of Ghana’s Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.
Speaking on Kumasi‑based Oyerepa FM, Dr. Amoah defended the Minority Leader, insisting that Afenyo‑Markin was only performing his oversight duty.
“Afenyo‑Markin is our Leader, and he is fighting for the interest of Ghanaians. We must all rally behind him,” he told host Nana Yaw Mensah Joel during a one‑on‑one interview.
He further urged the Minority Caucus to remain united and not allow what he described as smear campaigns from the ruling NDC to create division within the NPP side of Parliament.
