26 suspects put before court over 2020, 2024 election-related violence – Interior Minister
The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has disclosed that 26 suspects have so far been brought before the courts in connection with election-related violence recorded during Ghana’s 2020 and 2024 general elections.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series, Mr Muntaka said one of the suspects had since been discharged, while the remaining 25 are currently facing trial.
He added that the police were pursuing 13 other suspects who have been identified in connection with various incidents but remain at large.
According to the Minister, efforts are underway to apprehend the outstanding suspects and ensure that those already before the courts are properly prosecuted.
“The public will be duly informed of further developments as investigations and prosecution progress, and the police are also hoping that members of the public who have information on all these other 13 persons being pursued will be most welcome to provide that additional information,” he said.
Mr Muntaka explained that the update forms part of ongoing investigations into election-related violence following President John Dramani Mahama’s directive for a comprehensive probe into incidents recorded during the 2020 and 2024 elections.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that anyone found culpable is held accountable in accordance with the law.
