My father predicted family feud, church division before his death – Adwoa Safo
Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, says her late father, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, foresaw the family disputes, divisions and legal battles that would follow his death.
According to her, the founder of Kristo Asafo Mission and the Kantanka Group repeatedly warned her about difficult challenges ahead while he was on his sickbed, although the family initially did not attach much significance to his predictions.
Adwoa Safo made the revelation when she and other family members visited NPP flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, at his residence to express their appreciation for attending her late father’s thanksgiving service.
“My father said it before dying. Everything that happened, it followed in sequence. None of the prophecies didn't even fail,” she said.
She recalled that Apostle Safo once looked at her during his illness and warned her about the difficulties she would face.
“Awo, there is a big battle ahead of you. I know you will be able to fight and win,” she quoted her father as saying.
Adwoa Safo further disclosed that her father predicted divisions within the church, warning that members would take different sides.
She said the family only came to appreciate the significance of his warnings after his death, when disagreements began to emerge over various matters.
According to her, the late Apostle's wisdom and guidance helped her navigate the difficulties that followed his passing.
Customary Practices at Centre of Dispute
Adwoa Safo explained that some of the disagreements surrounding her father's funeral were linked to Akan customary practices, particularly the role of the matrilineal family in burial arrangements.
She said her maternal family, as the matrilineal side of the deceased, traditionally had responsibility for organising the burial.
“I had to consistently tell people it is the matrilineal family that is in charge of the burial, even though people were telling me I am the child and supposed to bury my father,” she said.
The death of Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka has since been followed by tensions between Adwoa Safo and her brother, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I, who has taken over the leadership of the church.
The dispute has reportedly resulted in a shooting incident, court proceedings and applications for injunctions.
Despite an injunction application filed by Akofena, Adwoa Safo went ahead with arrangements for their father's funeral.
